Sir Geoff Morgan’s debut

Sir Geoff Morgan’s debut at Brighton showed promise despite a challenging track and wide draw. After a strong finish, he’s set to race at Chester for the Lily Agnes.

Sir Geoff Morgan was ready to rock and roll. A year to the day after Nellie’s debut win at Beverley, Geoff had a lot to live up to. Showing good ability at home, we decided to take a chance. Brighton’s tricky track, with its downhill gradient, camber, and uphill finish, posed a challenge. Drawn wide in stall 7, with no horses outside him, wasn’t ideal for a debut.

Geoff jumped well but received a bump around the bend, which spurred him on. As he rolled down the hill, he seemed to lose his way, but once Ross Coakley straightened him up on the rising ground, he surged forward and nearly caught the winner. It was a very promising debut, and the experience at Brighton will have taught him a lot. Next stop: Chester for the Lily Agnes!
