Nobody in the syndicate could bear to sell our beloved Nellie after his two-year-old campaign, which earned us three winning trophies and £60k in prize money. Due to his remarkable ability to handle muddy conditions, we avoided the Esher Cup at Sandown and instead headed north to Haydock. The rain had heavily soaked the track that week, a course where he had previously won.

Stepping up to a mile proved no challenge for him as Pierre-Louis rode with supreme confidence from the front, making it a tough test for the others on that ground. From pillar to post, Nellie won by 2 lengths, pulling away impressively and delighting the crowd at Haydock, where a few of the syndicate members live just a stone’s throw away. Returning to the Silver Bowl at the end of May seems like the logical next step. All hail King Nellie!
